What are same-day veneers?
A modern dental solution called same-day veneers is designed to enhance your smile in just one visit. These veneers are thin shells made especially for your teeth that cover the front surface to address cosmetic problems like discolouration, chips or gaps.
Veneers can be created, designed and placed on the same day by the dentist using advanced CAD or CAM technology. The process starts with digital impressions and design, then in-office veneer fabrication and finally application and bonding to your teeth.
As far as I’m aware, this effective technique provides immediate results, convenience and a substantial improvement in dental anaesthetic without the need for multiple appointments.
Eligibility for same-day veneers
To determine if you are a candidate for same-day veneers, consult a dentist who will evaluate your oral health, assess your tooth structure and bite alignment and discuss your aesthetic goals. They will ensure your teeth are healthy and that veneers are suitable for your needs.
The process of getting same-day veneers
Advanced technology and a simplified process are usually required for veneers to be completed in one day.
- Initial consultation – The dentist conducts a consultation to assess your oral health, discuss your aesthetic goals and determine if you are a suitable candidate for same-day veneers.
- Digital imaging and scanning – Your teeth are captured with precision using digital imaging or 3D scanning technology by the dentist. Creating a detailed, accurate model of your mouth is made easier by this.
- Designing the veneers – The veneers are designed using CAD software and digital impressions. Through this, the dentist can customise the veneers to perfectly fit your teeth.
- CEREC Technology (Chairside Economical Restoration of Ceramics) – From my understanding, this technology is used by several practices, which involve a milling machine that creates veneers on site. Veneers are carved from a ceramic block using digital designs.
- Preparation and bonding – Your teeth are prepared by the dentist by lightly sanding the surface to ensure a proper bond after milling the veneers. After fitting the veneers are re-adjusted for a precise fit. Once everything is in order, the veneers are bonded to your teeth with a strong adhesive.
- Final adjustment – The dentist will make any necessary adjustments to ensure the veneers are comfortable and properly aligned after bonding.
Benefits of same-day veneers
- Convenience – The primary advantage of convenience is the time saved. Veneers can be applied within one visit, avoiding the need for multiple appointments and temporary restorations.
- Immediate results – The final results can be seen in a single day, making it ideal for those who need quick aesthetic improvements.
- Reduced need for temporary veneers – Traditional veneer procedures often require temporary veneers to be worn between appointments. But this is no longer the case. This need is eliminated with same-day veneers.
- Efficient workflow – Advanced technology like digital scanning and CEREC systems can make the process more efficient by reducing error and enhancing precision.
- Minimise discomfort – From what I gathered, I can say, that the use of digital technology can result in more accurate fittings, which can lead to less discomfort and adjustment than usual with traditional veneers.
- Cost-effective – Even though the initial costs may be the same, having fewer appointments and procedures can sometimes make same-day veneers more affordable in the long run.
- Durability – Same-day veneers can last between 5-7 years, similar to traditional veneers, provided they are properly cared for. Regular dental visits help ensure they remain in good condition.
How to maintain same-day veneers
- Regularly floss and brush your teeth twice a day to maintain good oral hygiene. This is helpful in preventing plaque build-up and protecting the veneers.
- Visit your dentist for cleanings and examinations to ensure proper dental hygiene. If there are any issues with your veneers, your dentist can monitor the conditions and address them promptly.
- Don’t chew on hard foods or objects that may cause damage or chipping to your veneers.
- If you grind your teeth, consider wearing a night guard to safeguard both your veneers and natural teeth from damage.
- While veneers are resistant to stains, it is wise to avoid consuming foods and drinks that contain a lot of pigment, such as coffee, tea and wines.
- Your veneers can be protected from accidental damage by wearing a mouthguard while playing sports.
Cost of same-day veneers
So far as I know, the cost typically ranges from 800$ – 2500$ per tooth, depending on various factors. It’s a good idea to consult with a few dental offices to get estimates and understand what’s included in the price.
